CASE STUDY
living room RE-DESIGN
A Historic Beauty
When a home is nearly 100 years old, it’s clear that its architecture can stand the test of time. However, over the years, some design elements become outdated and simply don’t align with the modern day needs of a young family.
This project is a special one, located in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Fort Worth, and more specifically, a historic street; lined with dozens of historically-registered homes.
Our goal was to keep the classic elements of the home in tact, while still allowing modern elements to shine.

The plan for this living room was to maintain a formal feel, but keep it relaxed as well. We wanted the room to feel high-end and elegant, but warm, welcoming and cozy all at once. The homeowners have two young children and a long-haired pet, so keeping that top-of-mind was important.
Incorporating touches of pastel pink helped offset the deep forest green hues as well as the more masculine leather elements seen in the accent chairs. With two facing sofas, we kept the arrangement of the furniture formal, but the two complimentary fabrics on each sofa gave way to a more casual look and feel.

The final installment
This project was an absolute labor of love in all the best ways. We took a once outdated historical living room (painted in a bright tomato red in the early 2000s), and gave it a more laid-back, elegant and modern feel. We brought back some historically-correct architectural moulding on the walls and color drenched the room in a relaxed cream.
The client worked seamlessly with Amy while the two explored local Fort Worth antique shops, while also sourcing items from high-end luxury retailers online. Amy also enjoyed sourcing unique items online through vintage retailers. By using modern shapes in the main pieces such as the sofas, chairs, and coffee table, we were able to use more whimsical shapes and patterns in the rugs, pillows and other elements on the lower floor.

Before v.s After
When it comes to interior design, it’s incredibly subjective; similar to any other art form. This is a prime example of a “before and after” where both designs are beautiful. The original design was completed by a talented local interior designer in the early 2000s, and in many ways, its classic elements stood the test of time.
However, just because the original design was well done, it simply didn’t meet our client’s wants, needs or vision. Design is quite personal, and everyone has their own taste. In this particular instance, we wanted to keep the classic elements of the room in tact, but modernize it and raise its overall “wow” factor. The end result is everything we envisioned, bringing our client’s dream into fruition.
